405. Our Little Escapade

At 6am this morning Zu and I went for our little escapade.... :p

We drove to Permyjaya to Mc Donald Drive Thru (near Emart Supermarket) to have breakfast.

I know all of you are familiar with this Mc D Drive Thru or Mc Donald and the food there. But in Miri there is only one Mc Donald's Drive Thru (this one I am telling) and the other one is Mc Donald's restaurant at Bintang Mega Mall. And only this Drive Thru offers breakfast meals. The place, it's about 14 km from our house. It is quite far and we've been only once there at the drive thru.

First we both want to enjoy the drive there. The drive would be nice without Alif around (for once LOL... & I think Zu deserves a break, to be alone with me) . We chose early morning because Alif would be still sleeping with his father and everyone else are still sleeping as well). And it's not hot. And the restaurant at the drive thru (because we want to sit down) would be still empty.

Today is Monday, hubby would be off to outstation driving to Niah and Selangau etc to send the chickens. And he isn't eating today (Puasa, which means fasting).

We both have the next couple of hours to ourselves.

So you can imagine what bliss it was to enjoy all these.... ? :)
We bought the family meal for 2 persons... the coffee was delicious.

I ate the omelette with the buns

Zu ate the burger

There were 2 pancakes, I ate one with some honey syrup and Zu ate the other

I like Mc Donald's food, they always stressed on cleanliness and the food are nicely packed.

The place was still empty. We enjoyed the emptiness and the quietness.

Besides these there is also a play space for children. We both thought it would be terrific to bring Alif here one morning.

We left the place at 730am.

Bye Mc D. Thanks for the lovely time.

Don't you do little escapade like we did?

404. A Nice Lunch

My soupy dish today was 'Sayur Cangkok Manis, Kobis and Karet Masak Lemak'. All vegetables... :)

Hubby can't eat without something soupy so since I have some leftover cabbage and one carrot in the fridge, I decided to mix in some sayur Cangkok (cangkor) manis as well.

My Sayur Cangkok Manis, Kobis and Karet Masak Lemak

To prepare :-

1. Cut all the vegetables, washed clean and drip dry in a sieve.

2. Keep aside.

To Cook :-

1. Saute 3 moderate small red onions, 3 garlic, 2 red chillies and half a tablespoon of belacan (shrimp paste) - (all grounded).

2. When aromatic, add in a cup of water. Let boiled.

3. Add in the vegetables.

4. Add in a packet of Cocolin Coconut powder (diluted in water).

5. Add some more water same level as the vegetables.

6. Let boiled under moderate fire.

7. Add salt or if you want some ajinomoto to taste.

8. Eat while it's hot with white rice.

Early this morning a fisherman friend gave hubby some 1 1/2 kilo of very fresh squids (sotong). I didn't want to keep it too long in the fridge so I cooked it immediately. But myyy...don't I hate cleaning these squids, all the ink also came out ha ha...

Sotong Masak Kicap

Like I always said, bila masak kicap semua pun laku! and so easy!

To prepare, of course after cutting them up, I cleaned and drip dry in a sieve.

To Cook :-

1. Saute sliced one big onion, 3 garlic and 2 red chillies (sliced).

2. Add in half a cup of water.

3. Add in half a cup of dark soy sauce (kicap).

4. Add in a tablespoon of sugar.

5. Add in the cut squids.

5. Stir well and quickly.

6. Add a pinch of salt and ajinomoto to taste.

7. As soon as boiled place in a glass bowl or plate.

8. Eat while hot and enjoy the crispiness of the squids.

We had a nice lunch. Hope yours went well too :)

403. Merisik

Yesterday 19th April was a Special Day for my youngest daughter Noormy.

It was her 'Majlis Merisik Day' :)

'Merisik' also means 'Bertekul' in Malay. It's a day when a boy send his parents or representatives or relative to a girl's house to ask if she would be his future fiancee and wife to be in life. A gold ring and some token of money will be given as soon as the girl agrees and a date for an engagement ceremony (Majlis Pertunangan) will be fixed.

That's what happened yesterday evening and even though it was a very small meeting between us, Mak isah was quite busy entertaining the guests then.

To my darling Noormy, Congrats & I love you.

Sharing these pictures of the simple ceremony to you dear friends :)

Then giving Salam to her

Some money as a Token

The men looking upon - from left, Noormy's ayah angkat, Noormy's dad and the boy's brother in law

From right - Noormy's ibu angkat (she looked after Noormy when she was small) and in blue one of the boy's elder sister

And Mak isah ... happy to see Noormy happy :)

Love you all,
Mak isah

402. A Fishy Menu

Yesterday morning I was in a hurry to finish making this 'Umai Ikan Tenggiri' before going to voting. Late too. Hubby and I had wanted to leave the house at 930am earlier on. Instead we left at 1030am. But all went well.

But geram la tengok these Mackerel that my SIL caught offshore. See?

I have talked in a previous post about making this 'Umai' here but with 'Asam Paya' (Asam Rumbia).

This time I used a lot of limes and vinegar instead.

About 30 t0 35 limes

And these...Except for the cili padi (which you can either ground or sliced) , slice the ginger and onions into small thin slices.

Preparation for 'Umai' you can read it here. :)

My ready made 'Umai Ikan Tenggiri'

A'ahh...for 2 hours I made this 'Umai' preparation, right from I started slicing the Mackerel flesh into tiny slices to the tasting whether 'cukup masam, masin dan pedas nya' :p

But I got that ready for lunch before going voting.

When I came home after the vote, I cooked this...

Ikan Tenggiri Masak Kicap

Luckily my eldest daughter Zu had fried some Ikan Tenggiri, so all I need to prepare was the sauce.

To Prepare the Ketchup Sauce :-

1. Saute 1 large onion, 1 garlic, 1 inch ginger and 1 fresh red chilli (all sliced) in a pan.

2. When aromatic, pour 1 cup of water and add 1/2 cup of Dark Soy Sauce (kicap) in.

3. Let boiled for 2 minutes.

4. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar, salt to taste.

5. Pour sauce over the arranged fried cut fish.

Menu was a 'fishy' menu he he....
