453. What's Today

For lunch today MI cooked these...

                               'Chicken Breast Ketchup'

                               'Prawn Sauced'

                               Homemade Salted Mustard

All in small portions because for example the big prawns, Noormy & Farouk can't eat them as they are both allergic to this seafood.

So for both of them MI cooked the 'Chicken Breast Ketchup'.

The homemade 'Kimchi' (the children nickname for it ha ha..), or the salted mustard everybody can eat.

And at 2pm MI and Soraya are off to town again.

Coming back from town at 4pm, MI ate this agar-agar (jelly) from my refrigerator he he...

Refreshing to the throat!

446. Late Lunch

I had a late lunch  this afternoon. The vendor from TM came to upgrade my Streamyx and stayed from 12noon until 2.30pm. There were a lot of catches here and there and he had to telephone his boss at TM or to KL saying they have to use a new port and not the present one otherwise he can't upgrade to 2Mpbs. So definitely I was delayed.

Lucky, my cooking didn't take long today. The rest of the family ate on time but I took lunch only at 3pm.

What's for lunch was -

'Bean Sprout cooked with Ikan Bilis, sliced large onion and chilli'

and then I sliced 1 large onion, 3 cili padi, add in some ikan bilis. Place them in a small bowl.  Sprinkle some dark soy sauce plus a little bit of vinegar. I am sure not many of you can eat this.  But MI and son like to eat this with hot white rice.

Appetizer - 'Ikan Bilis with Large Onions'

The main dish was this ' Chicken Wings Soup with dried Dates. The dried dates made the soup a little sweet so don't add too much. When eating the hot soup, sprinkle some fried sliced onions in it.  The onions will make it more delicious.

'Chicken Wings Soup with Dried Dates'

After blogging this,  I need a quick shower.  MI smells ha ha...

So, how many of you are using Streamyx 2mpbs or have upgraded to Streamyx 2mpbs (correct spelling?) ?
MI anxious to know how good it is.  The vendor said I have to wait 24 hrs before that speed to be effective and that's until tomorrow around noon.

I guess I have to keep my fingers crossed.

BTW, MI hopes you have had  a good lunch  :D

445. For Dinner

This morning after breakfast out with hubby, I cooked 1 whole chicken (moderate size) with dark soy sauce. Aya is on PM duty so she 'tapau' some of it with rice to work. Come lunch time, Farouk came to eat, Noormy who woke up also ate as she is going to work at 1.30pm. Farouk said he wanted to 'tapau' some rice with it for his girl friend. Then hubby came and we had lunch together. After washing the dishes I peeped into the pot of  'Chicken Ketchup' and saw only a few pieces of chicken left he he.

Hish I told myself, I think I have to cook some food for dinner.  Aya will come home from work at 1030pm and surely will ask what's for dinner (supper?) & Noormy will come back from work at 1130pm and also wants to eat. Sigh, seem like both my girls are  workaholic like their dad.

Hubby is on night duty and as usual will 'tapau' some food to work. He doesn't like to eat rice without soup so I decided to stay in the kitchen to cook 'Chicken Breast with Mushroom with dark Soy Sauce'.  That's a long name but to cook it is so simple.

1.  Cut breast of Chicken into thin slices, washed and drip dry in a sieve.  Put aside.

 2.  Soak 4 pieces of dried Mushroom in a bowl of water. Later sliced and put aside.

3.  Ground 3 garlic, 1 small red onion, 2" ginger and  slice 2 bulbs of lemon grass.

4.  In a pot, heat up some cooking oil.

5.  Add in the grounded ingredients and lemon grass. Stir and add half a cup of water to avoid ingredients getting burnt.

6.  Add in 2 flat teaspoonful of Adabi's 'Perencah sup' powder. Continue stirring.

7.  Add in the sliced Chicken breast.

8.  Add in  1/2 to 3/4 cup of dark Soy sauce.

9.  Add in the sliced mushroom.

10. Add in 1 tablespoon of Tomato sauce & 1 tablespoon of Sugar.

11. Add in half of a big onion (sliced) & lastly 1 cup of water.

12. Boil until chicken breast is tender and gravy slightly thick.

My Chicken Breast with Mushroom with Dark Soy Sauce

P/s. When cooking with dark soy sauce, MI doesn't add salt to the food as the dark soy sauce is salty.

438. These 2 Dishes

Beef Stew

Asam Pedas Ikan Tenggiri

I cooked these 2 dishes for the family within this week. The first one 'Beef Stew' was not so 'laku'. Even by evening, masih tak habis.

The second 'Asam Pedas Ikan Tenggiri' sangat 'laku'. By evening even the pineapple was also gone.

For me, I like 'Beef Stew' especially when there is a lot of potatoes. Only this time my dish looked pale because I ran out of carrot and capsicums. If I'd added these two, then the dish would have some color :)

The girls, hubby, Farouk & Alif's dad like the 'Asam Pedas Ikan Tenggiri' better. Farouk is very choosy about fish that he eats and like 'Ikan Tenggiri' (Mackerel) best. Noormy like 'Asam Pedas' with any fish as long as I add fresh pineapple slices into it. Soraya is not in favor of meat.

Anyway, I think I was the only one who like my 'beef stew' and ate more of it he he.

If you like 'Beef Stew' this is how I cook it.

To Prepare :

1. Cut 500gm meat into thin slices or to your taste, clean under running water and drip dry in a sieve.

2. Skin 4 - 5 potatoes and cut into cubes.

3. 1 tablespoon 'Rempah Sup'.

4. 1 tablespoon black pepper.

5. 1 tablespoon cornflour mixed well with a cup of water.

6. 1 carrot cut into cubes, some sliced tomatoes, 1/2 capsicum (optional).

To Cook:

1. Saute in a pan, grounded 1/2 inch ginger and 3 garlic.

2. Add in the meat. Add some water. Cook until almost tender.

3. Add the potatoes, the Rempah Sup, carrot, black pepper and more water.

4. Add in the cornflour. Cook until a bit thicker.

5. Add in 1 sliced large onion, the sliced tomatoes and the capsicum.

6. Add salt to taste.

How do you cook your 'Beef Stew'?

434. Paku Tumis Belacan

One of the food that I ate on Boxing Day was this. Sayur Paku. That costs RM6.50. This is one of the vegetable menu that they serve at Permymall SCR Express in Miri. Rather expensive for a plate of vegetable?

Down here is a plate of the same vegetable dish called ' Paku Tumis Belacan' and this is worth RM5.

I bought 3 tompok for RM5 but selling at RM2 for 1 tompok. Bring home and cooked it myself. Wah, puas makan & makan panas-panas he he...

433. My Favorite Fruit

For the past 1 week my kitchen has smells of only DURIAN the King Fruit!

I think it's Durian craze in Sarawak. How about in the Semenanjung, I wonder? :D

This is among one of my favorite fruits, although none of my family members eat this fruit as much as I do ha ha... Can you imagine the smell of Me now?

As Aya says,' Oma and her Durian!' :p

I cannot resist these...can you??

I love them raw... and except for Noormy the rest of the family only love them made into Fried 'Tempoyak'.

So I did that too... Do you eat Fried 'Tempoyak'?
This afternoon too I had opened up 5 more Durians and made some more 'Tempoyak' . Hubby came back from Bekenu & Niah and bought some more of it. In Miri town they are selling by kilogram, that means weighing and it can goes up to RM15 - RM20 per kilo. With skin and all! But if you go to these rural areas you can buy 4 buah Durian for RM15 only.

And hubby is good in bargaining :D

So let Mak isah open up this January of the New Year 2012 of the Dragon with the King Fruit.

Cheerio.

p/s. To make 'Tempoyak, just peel off flesh of the Durian into a container, add salt and sugar to taste. I keep my container of Durian out for a day before storing it into my fridge.

To fry, in a pan of some hot cooking oil, add some grounded small red onions, some garlic and red chillies. Add some anchovies or even fresh peeled prawns.

Add the amount of Tempoyak you need and stir well. Add salt & sugar to taste.

Enjoy with your other dishes.

429. Just Another Side Dish

This is just another side dish or rather 'pembuka selera' just like my 'Sambal Nasi Lemak' in my previous post :D But Mak isah not sure if any of you eat or make this sort of dish to add up with your main meals. Mak isah does sometimes, that is if the main dish that I cooked are very simple ones like some vegetable soup.

Today for lunch Mak isah cooked some cabbage soup and fried some chicken wings. So...to 'buka selera makan' Mak isah made this side dish here.

Simply wash some anchovies, drip dry and place in a plate or glass bowl.

Cut up some hot chili padi. Add in.

Slice some big onion (optional). Add in.

Scoop a table spoon fresh belacan (hubby made this as we eat our own self made shrimp paste).

Cut 4 - 5 pieces of 'limau kasturi' and press the juice out onto the belacan.

Mix and eat like 'Sambal Belacan'.

Ever tried this? :D

428. Sambal Nasi Lemak

I know this friend of my son Farouk. He's called Ah Chong working together with him in the same company. Each year when comes Hari Raya he will request me to make 'Umai Ikan' or 'Sambal Nasi Lemak' to eat with the variety of food that I serve on my table for my guests. He will come on the first day to eat especially these 2 items.

Last week he requested Farouk to let me know if I can make and sell to him some 'Sambal Nasi Lemak' . He said he wants to eat it with his regular meals.

Last month I did give him a bottle of the sambal to try. Now he wants to buy he he...

This dish is a common item in my household. Every now and then either myself or Aya will make it. And well, not necessarily we eat the sambal with nasi lemak, we eat it with practically anything like with bread, or with hard boiled eggs and with ordinary rice during everyday meals. It can be stored in a container and placed in the fridge.

So last evening I made Sambal Nasi Lemak and stored them in these 2 used Prego bottle containers for Ah Chong , Cute? :D
and some placed in this container for our own consumption.

BTW, Ah Chong wants it hot ha ha...isshh...for sure hubby and SIL will grumble as both of them cannot 'tahan' eating hot stuffs.

You can view this Sambal Nasi Lemak recipe in my previous post here :)

Have a Good 1st December!

427. Sambal Udang Kering Campur Telor

I made this yesterday evening as a side dish for dinner the first time after a long time. Aya forgot and said why it was that I never made it before. I said I did. She didn't remember.

Today before lunch she asked if I can make the same side dish one more time. I asked, ' do you like it?' She said,' yes of course'. Ha ha.. and I did.

Mak isah don't know if any of you are allergic to prawns or dry prawns. I hope not too many though. Noormy is allergic to fresh prawns nowadays. But with dried prawns she's okay.

I bought these dry prawns during my last short visit in KK for RM35 per kilo. Do you think it is cheap? But in Miri it costs more than that.

You can make this dish hot or not hot. I made it real hot by adding 10 - 12 chilli padi beside adding a tablespoon of blended dried chillies.

1. Wash a handful of dried prawns and drip dry in a sieve.

2. Heat some cooking oil in a frying pan.

3. Throw in grounded 2 small red onions & 3 garlic plus a tablespoon of blended dried chillies.

4. Stir well. Add in 1 egg and continue stirring.

5. Add in grounded 12 chilli padi with the lightly grounded dried prawns as well.

6. Stir and add salt to taste.

7. Serve as a side dish with hot rice.

p/s.

This can also be eaten with white bread or use as a filling for puffs.

422. Sambal Belacan

Macam2 cara nak buat 'Sambal Belacan' Mak isah rasa...Yang ini Mak isah buat bila buat entri yang lepas sebab nak makan dengan Kari Kepala Ikan.

Dan Entri ni istimewa untuk blogger friend 'Luciana' because she asked me my 'Sambal Belacan' recipe he he... Thanks for asking my dear :D

Simple je...

1. 15 - 20 Cili Padi

2. 2 Sudu Besar Belacan (Shrimp Paste) * Belacan buat sendiri...hubby yang buat :)

3. Ground well ingredients 1. and 2. in a 'Lesung Batu'.

Lesung Batu

4. Slice 3 'Limau Kasturi' into 4 or more slices and add into the 'Lesung Batu'. Press lightly the juice and mix well.

Limau Kasturi

5. Serve with your other dishes.

P.S. If for 'Ulam' with young mangoes or others, usually I will add in more 'Belacan' and also some 'Ikan Bilis' or 'Pusu' (dry anchovies).

Wash the 'Ikan Bilis' and pound well with the 'Belacan'.

Usually if for 'Ulam' with mangoes, Mak isah will not add too much Cili Padi but more 'Belacan'. Then it will be nicer to eat and not so hot!

421. Bemasak & GT

SIL came back from offshore 2 days ago. He brought home this huge fish.
He said this is called 'Ikan Bemasak' or sometimes people called it 'GT'. I have no idea, I thought at first it is 'Ikan Belokok'. That's what me and hubby called it or fishes that look like it. Smaller of course.

Do you have another name for this fish?

This was the head...

It's tail part...taken near...

Hubby helped cut the fish into small parts using his Company's machine (a machine used to cut chicken parts).

He told me when he weigh the fish on the scale it weighs over 9 kilos.

Today I cooked it's head into Curry he he...

So..we ate 'Curry Fish Head' for lunch today :)

Curry Fish Head (2 pictures)

To cook...it's simple :)

1. Clean the cut fish head parts under tap water, put into a sieve and place aside to drip dry.

2. Blend 3 red onions, 4 garlic, 2" ginger with some water in an electric blender.

3. Pour some cooking oil in a pot.

4. When hot pour in the blended ingredients and let boiled. Add one stalk of lightly grounded lemongrass.

5. Add in 2 tablespoons of blended dried red chillies or according to taste.

6. Add a small packet of 'Rempah Tumis' and some curry leaves (optional).

7. Add 5 tablespoons of 'Babas' curry powder. Add in 1 packet of 'Cocolin' coconut powder. *Both mixed with some water to dilute*

8. Add in the fish and add salt to taste.

9. Let boiled quickly and then off fire.

Vegetable for today was 'Kangkong Tumis Belacan', which Aya (who is offduty) offered to cook.

I thought if there is Curry there must be ' Sambal Belacan' ...so I made this :D

Last but not least, this Soy sauce, add some lime juice and cut cilli padi to it, to eat the fish head with.

What can I say.... we had a Yummy lunch today!

420. Fried Fish Balls with Spicy Gravy

This is quite a new recipe in my family. Surprisingly the children like it. Usually I cooked fish ball soup when I am lazy to spend too much time in the kitchen on a particular day.

Like today ha ha...

I asked Zu my eldest daughter to roast a chicken whilst I cooked this. Even Mak isah 'malas' nak ground the onions. I have seen Zu blend some ginger, red onions and garlic in my blender. She blended quite a lot and more than enough. And it was to cook a hot spicy gravy to eat with the roasted chicken later.

What I did was, I poured a little cooking oil onto a frying pan.

When boiled, I scooped some of the blended ingredients (ginger, red onions & garlic) which was enough to make some gravy, and poured into the frying pan.

Add 2 tablespoons of blended dried chillies or according to your taste.

Stir under moderate fire for 5 minutes while adding a little water.

Add a tablespoon of tomato sauce or more according to taste.

Add half a teaspoon of sugar or to taste.

Add salt to taste.

Pour on to the plate of fried fish balls (which are already fried in oil earlier).

Pour some cut 'daun bawang' for garnish.

Enjoy it with hot white rice.
