My SIL (son in law) catches fish whenever he is offshore on the rig, then make the fishes into salted fishes, sell them onshore or bring some back home when he comes offshore. So, each time he comes back we have a lot of fresh fish or salted fish in the house.
Below is one type of 'ikan masin' (salted fish) which he made himself which I steamed it today.

To steam -
1. Cut the fish, place 2 pieces in a plate
2. Sliced 3 small shallots, 3 garlic, 1 red chilli and 1 inch ginger
3. Place the sliced ingredients over the fish
4. Steam for 15 minutes
5. Serve with hot rice and other dishes.
