306. Lamantak, Linut or Embuyat

For several weeks I have been wanting to eat this!

Finally I did last night LOL...Yes we (Zu, myself, Noormy & Alif) after closing our 'Cendol' stall went to 'Selihah Restoran' near the 'Seberkas Pasar Malam'.

I saw a banner this restaurant hang up in front of their shop saying they have this dish on their everyday menu. 'So, apa lagi, once I had the chance I went to eat it!'

When I told hubby before going, he said why not cook it at home, I said next time, right now 'nak mamam so pegi je la he he...'

It was my first time going to this restoran. Outside there were plenty of people going to the 'Pasar Malam' as it was Friday night :) and the rain drizzling outside made me hungrier!

That bowl of 'Lamantak' (that's what I called it) or 'Linut' or 'Embuyat' that's what it says on the restoran menu is only RM4.00 and goes with the 'Sambal' (hot chillies with shrimp paste, anchovies and 'asam') to eat it with. Yummy it was delicious!

The 'Sambal'

How to eat this 'lamantak' - I just twirl the sticky paste with this wooden fork they provided and then dipped it in the 'Sambal' and then put it into my mouth and swallow (no need to chew lol..).

When we were served, Noormy said that was her first time eating it, and ended we ordered another bowl of it. She likes it!

Eating 'Lamantak' with a wooden fork

Okay...this is what I was eating....'Lamantak' is some sago flour which somehow has been processed and this is quickly (I mean very quickly) mix with some boiling water, very quickly stirred to form that (in the picture). When it is done, it is then called 'Linut' or 'Embuyat'.

Have you ever eaten this before?

To go with it, we ordered 'Nasi Goreng Pattaya'

And last but not least 'Umai Ikan Tenggiri'!

The 'Umai' (sliced uncooked Mackerel fish mixed with lime juice, onions, ginger, chillies & salt) was as good as the 'Sambal' and 'Lamantak'.

Whooshh...it was like having a feast! We enjoyed our food.

That was a real chilled eating out!

Cheerio.

Wah bestnya mak Isah makan di luar. Selalu tgok Lamantak dlm magazines and TV but of course tak pernah try. I don't think we can find it here in Semenanjung. Wonder how does it tastes like.

As for Umai..From the ingredients of Umai I think I can imagine how does it tastes like..

OO..pernah tgok Lamantak dlm mags yer? Tak perasan la mak isah kat Semenanjung takde benda ni...Ni..makanan tradisional orang-orang Melanau kat Sarawak ni..
How does it taste? he he..bagi mak isah tasteless la..tapi macam chewing gum..almost like..tapi bila di makan dgn sambal tu, jadi very tasty pulak!

Umai tu satu makanan tradisional orang-orang berbangsa Melanau jugak, tapi mak isah dah biasa makan dari kecil, hanya jarang makan je.. anak-anak suka, especially Noormy & Aya :)

A'ah taste dia masam2 pedas, almost like cencalu bila dah dicampur dgn limau dan cili.
